2009 AAC Election -  Nominees List


Treasurers Position

Nominations for the position of Treasurer will be accepted effective immediately. For this position only, the nomination period has been extended until October 9.

Nominees for other positions have been asked for bios/statements to be posted on the web site. Given the timeline and the need for translation, it would be helpful if nominees for this position could prepare and submit theirs ASAP rather than waiting until the end of the extended nomination period.

Job Description

This position shall be elected every two (2) years by the general membership. To be considered for this position, the candidate must be an active member of AAC.

The Treasurer must either possess knowledge of Quickbooks software or be willing to acquire such knowledge and must possess a personal computer capable of handling the AAC-owned Quickbooks software, plus provide all BoD members a monthly statement that shows total revenues and expenses for that month and current bank balances.

The duties and responsibilities are to receive, deposit and document all monies received and paid out by AAC as follows:

  • to deposit all monies received in a timely manner;
  • to issue cheques as required by AAC business;
  • to reimburse members of the board or others duly authorized to work on behalf of AAC;
  • to ensure that individuals receiving monies from AAC present a receipt or written account of expenses;
  • to document all monetary transactions;
  • to supply the President and Vice President, AAC with a monthly statement that shows the total revenues and expenses for that month and the current bank balance (this statement shall be due two weeks after the last day of the month);
  • to supply each member of the board of directors and the Newsletter Editor (for publication) with a biannual detailed statement of expenses (this statement shall be due on February 1st and August 1st) which shall include the following categories;
  • Revenues
    • membership revenues;
    • trial revenues;
    • dog ID card revenues;
    • newsletter advertising revenues;
    • judging clinic revenues;
    • pin revenues;
    • miscellaneous revenues;
    • national championship revenues;
    Expenses
    • telephone expenses;
    • conference call expenses;
    • stationary, photocopying and supplies expenses;
    • postal expenses;
    • newsletter expenses;
    • national championship expenses;
    • miscellaneous expenses;

    • other revenues/expenses as requested by the President, AAC.

  • to provide cash advances as appropriate and in consultation with
        the President, AAC


2009 Elections - AAC Members List

NOTE: Voting members are "only those Regular Members (not clubs) of AAC who:

  1. on July 1 of the election year and again on the date the official voters list is created being October 1, have completed one continuous year of membership and are eighteen years of age or older;
  2. are members in good standing with AAC;
  3. residents of the appropriate regional zones

Shall be eligible to move or second a nomination, be nominated, vote, stand for election and or be elected as a Board member.`

The following positions are open to nomination:

One director from each of the following regions:

  British Columbia/Yukon
  Alberta/Northwest Territories
  Saskatchewan/Manitoba/Nunavut
  Ontario
  Quebec (must be French/English bilingual)
  Newfoundland/Nova Scotia
  New Brunswick/PEI

Candidates

All candidates must be AAC members for 1 year as of July 1, 2009.
The nomination form must be filled out by 2 AAC members and be accepted by the nominee.

Job Descriptions

While these are the official job descriptions for positions on the Board of Directors, more information on what each job entails on a day-to-day basis can be had by contacting the current holder of the seat. Contact info can be found on the AAC website.

For all positions, access to a computer is mandatory. The vast majority of communication among Board members takes place via a closed e-mail list.

President

To be considered for this position, the candidate must:

  • be willing to travel.

Leadership skills, being a judge, being an active competitor, being involved in hosting trials and broad knowledge of the sport of agility are all assets.

The President is elected every two (2) years by the general membership.
The duties and responsibilities are to represent the membership and lead the Board of Directors as follows:

  • lead AAC by activity and example;
  • ensure that the constitution of AAC is upheld;
  • actively promote AAC;
  • actively assist all members and clubs;
  • serve the best interests of AAC and its membership;
  • be informed and promote the creation of all policies, procedures and rules of AAC;
  • enforce all policies, procedures and rules of AAC;
  • actively lead the decision making process of AAC;
  • respect, uphold and support all policies, procedures and rules of AAC;
  • ensure that any concerns, issues, etc., from the membership are properly addressed by the Board of Directors;
  • ensure that clubs hosting trials are informed and adhere to the policies, procedures and rules of AAC;
  • ensure that judges are informed and adhere to the policies, procedures and rules of AAC;
  • assist and promote the formation of new clubs;
  • actively participate on the Board of Directors by facilitating email discussions, attending and leading meetings and teleconferences and coming to such meetings adequately prepared;
  • actively participate and/or create committees or chair committees as required;
  • provide the Newsletter Editor with a “president’s message’ for each issue of the newsletter;
  • promote judging clinics;
  • provide prompt feedback on decision making matters as required;
  • initiate and/or coordinate new policies and procedures;
  • seek and appoint positions, committees, committee chairs and special interest groups within AAC as required;
  • ensure that the rule book is fair, reasonable and is updated/modified as required;
  • ensure that the judges clinic is being taught consistently and conforms to the current rule book;
  • provide information to the membership, member clubs, judges and board as required (written and/or verbal);
  • maintain awareness of all aspects as is reasonable or required of the sport of agility;
  • provide support for all elected/appointed members of the board and judges;
  • foster a team spirit within the Board of Directors;
  • seek the removal/replacement of all elected/appointed members of the board and judges as required;
  • act as the ambassador for AAC as required for international competition and matters as required.

Vice President

The Vice President is elected every two (2) years by the general membership

The duties and responsibilities are to represent the membership of AAC as follows;

  • actively promote AAC;
  • actively assist all members and clubs;
  • serve the best interests of AAC;
  • be informed of all policies, procedures and rules of AAC;
  • enforce all policies, procedures and rules of AAC;
  • actively participate in the decision making process of AAC;
  • respect, uphold and support all policies, procedures and rules of AAC;
  • take to the Board of Directors any concerns, issues, etc from the membership;
  • actively participate on the Board of Directors by participating in email discussions attending meetings and teleconferences and coming to such meetings adequately prepared;
  • actively participate on committees or chair committees;
  • provide prompt feedback on decision making matters as requested;
  • support the President;
  • perform the duties and responsibilities of the President in his/her absence.

Recording/Corresponding Secretary

The Recording/Corresponding Secretary is elected every (2) two years by the general membership.

The duties and responsibilities are to maintain a record of the official correspondence, policies and business of AAC as follows:

  • to file all official correspondences of AAC;
  • to distribute correspondences to the board, judges, membership or others as directed by the President, AAC;
  • to reply to requests for information about AAC in a timely matter;
  • to assist in any voting procedure by mailing ballots, etc.;
  • to sit on a committee as required by the President, AAC;
  • to act as recording secretary and distribute the minutes to the board of directors and the Newsletter Editor at AAC meetings/teleconferences;
  • to maintain the policies, procedures, constitution and rules of AAC as required.
  • actively participate on the Board of Directors by participating in email discussions, attending meetings and teleconferences and coming to such meetings adequately prepared;

Regional Director

There are seven regional directors.
Each is elected every two (2) years by the general membership of the region they represent.
The duties and responsibilities are to represent the membership of the region as follows (“the region” refers to the region that the director represents);

  • actively promote AAC in the region;
  • actively assist all members and clubs within the region;
  • serve the best interests of the region and of AAC;
  • Actively promote and encourage annual AAC Regional Championships and act as liaison between the Regional organizers and the AAC Board or its designate.
  • be informed of all policies, procedures and rules of AAC;
  • enforce all policies, procedures and rules of AAC;
  • actively participate in the decision making process of AAC;
  • respect, uphold and support all policies, procedures and rules of AAC;
  • take to the Board of Directors any concerns, issues, etc from the membership of the region;
  • ensure that clubs hosting trials are informed and adhere to the policies, procedures and rules of AAC;
  • assist and promote the formation of new clubs within the region;
  • inspect the equipment of new clubs to ensure it conforms to AAC specifications;
  • inspect the venue chosen by new clubs to ensure the grounds, facilities, etc are acceptable;
  • ! ensure that indoor trial surfaces are acceptable and unlikely to increase the chance of injury to dog or handler;
  • assist as is reasonable the first trial hosted by a new club;
  • actively participate on the Board of Directors by participating in email discussions, attending meetings and teleconferences and coming to such meetings adequately prepared;
  • actively participate on committees or chair committees;
  • provide the Newsletter Editor with a minimum of two (2) provincial reports for publication per year;
  • promote judging clinics within the region;
  • provide prompt feedback on decision making matters as requested.
